What drives us

Preserve, don't replace.

We are Jeremias Kutscher and Thies Wendtland, two trained carpenters with a focus on windows and doors. With our workshop, we follow a clear ambition: to preserve the dwindling stock of Berlin's heritage windows — out of craftsman's conviction and with the aim of working resource-consciously, so that future generations can still benefit from this substance. From the start, it was important to us to build a business that doesn't settle for the quick standard solution, but looks at every component as closely as the craft actually demands.

From our apprenticeship and our work in other firms, we know how many companies operate: purely for economic reasons, heritage windows and doors are taken out too quickly and replaced with new ones. At first sight, that's simpler and often cheaper in the quote.

In most cases, however, a proper restoration of existing windows delivers the same — often even better — performance than a new component: in terms of insulation, sound protection and especially the moisture exchange through the wall. Particularly in Berlin's heritage buildings, where the entire building-physics system is built on the existing materials, this is not a factor to underestimate.

We take the time to look at what's there, to seal, to repair, to make it work again. And when something really has to be renewed, then made to measure and in the style of the building.

That's not romanticism — that's craftsmanship that understands the fabric of the building.
